Day 36: Logan

Old Main

Logan, Utah is home to Utah State University.  I really like USU.  These pictures were taken September 2008.  September is a good time in Logan because it isn't too warm but it isn't too cold.  If you stick around for the winter you wonder why because it can get pretty cold.  But late summer is great!

"A" Rock

In order to become a "True Aggie"  you have a couple options.  One of those options is getting kissed by a true Aggie on the "A" at midnight when there is a full moon.

Day 35: Helsinki

This is the Uspenski Cathedral in Helsinki, Finland.  Unlike the other cathedrals that I have been going to and taking pictures this one was not Russian Orthodox.  It was actually a Lutheran church.  I am still curious as to what the church looked like inside but it wasn't open when we went.
This was one of the two distinct buildings that we could see as our cruise ship was coming into Helsinki.  I personally like the snow that is covering part of the roof.  I think it looks cool.

Day 34: Trakai

 

These pictures were taken November 2012.  There is a little city, Trakai, that is a (relatively) short bus ride away from Vilnius, Lithuania.  It was really cool to see this castle there.   It was unfortunate that we didn't get to go when it was light but at least I got a couple pictures.  The picture below kind of showed the pathway we went on.  But then we realized that that pathway went the wrong way so then we turned around.
When we first got to the castle it was all dark and hadn't been lit up yet.  We were very disappointed then.  But then as we were walking away the lights turned on and we saw the majesty that was this castle.  We weren't able to go inside because there was no one there that we could see.  But the castle has probably been there since the 1500's.

Day 33: Tallinn

This picture was also taken November 2012.  While on a tour of Old Town Tallinn we saw this Russian Orthodox cathedral.  These kind of cathedrals are all over Russia.  Our tour guide, who was hands-down the most sarcastic person that I have ever met, told us about the top the cathedral.  You see that there is the 3 part cross?  That is normal.  It is on every cathedral.  But what is rare is the half moon that the cross is going through.  As Helly (tour guide) said to show those Muslim dogs that Russian Orthodox is superior because we are such douches.  That is not a direct quote (hence the lack of quotation marks) but it was pretty harsh.

Day 32: Riga

This picture was taken November 2012.  I did a lot of traveling in November.  This was a little display thing in the middle of Old Town in Riga.  It was really powerful with its content (tragedy in Latvia during WWII) and its color and contrast.  The messages were written in Latvian, English, Russian, German and Hebrew.

Unfortunately when I went they were actually moving the exhibit and so there was very much available to see.  There were two walls pretty much.  But it was really cool.

You have to be careful where you park though.  There is a boot on that car.  Oops.

Day 31: Stockholm

These pictures were taken November 2012 of the Stockholm Sweden Temple.  For more information about temples click here.  I was a little bit disappointed that it was dark when we actually got there.  But you do what you can do.  Being in the right place at the right time is hard when you are just visiting for a couple hours.  But I was at least grateful to be there and get my picture taken.

The writing says, "Temple, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints."

Day 30: Hill of Crosses

These pictures were taken November 2012 in Lithuania.  The closest city was Šiauliai, Lithuania.  We took a bus from that city to another and were dropped off pretty much in the middle of nowhere.  We went here to see the Hill of Crosses (below).  It was kind of eerie when it started to get dark.  There is just something about the mist.

Lone Tree

There were a ton of crosses on this hill.  Some were bigger others were smaller.  But there were a ton. Some of them had years dating back to 1997.
