Day 52: Moscow

A very popular or well known point of interest in Moscow is Red Square.  Well in Russian, Red Square is Красная Площадь.

On the North side of Red Square (on the right of the picture) is St Basil's Cathedral.  Unfortunately the sun wasn't out and so colors are kind of dull.  But when I went back that night it was fantastic!  Then on the left of this picture is the Kremlin.

Here we also have the Kremlin.  Kremlin really means stronghold.  So there are a number of Kremlins all over Russia but here is the famous one that is blown up in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.  The Kremlin is on the East side of Red Square.

Then to the south is the Historical Museum.  It contain a lot of important historical relics including coronation clothes for Czars and Csarinas and also carriages.

Then finally on the West Side was the ГУМ (GUM).  It is a big mall complex.

Day 48: Moscow

What is a Ferrari doing behind glass on the street of Moscow?  I have no idea.  But they had a bunch of exhibits from Italy and Ferrari is a pretty important thing that comes from Italy right?  I thought so also.

Day 42: Moscow

There is this really cool monument/memorial that is called Victory Park or Парк Победы.  It stands in memory of World War II.  In Russian it is referred to as the Great Patriotic War.  It is hard to give perspective to the sheer height of that column but I think the picture does it a little.  Notice how small people look.

Here is close up of part of the column.  There was great detail all up and down the column.  In this segment you can see the "hero" cities of Leningrad (St Petersburg) and Moscow.

At the very top were these statues.  it looked really cool.  I am not sure of what it means but if I were to guess it would be an angel bringing peace and two babes trumpeting her arrival.

Then at the base you have a horseman who has cut up the snake that is Fascism.  There are a couple Nazi swastikas on the snake.
